My name is Jim. I grew up with Elvis. I was born in 1942, so you see how close, in age, Elvis and I were. I remember hearing his songs being played over the radio. Everyone had "ducktail" hair cuts.

I have collected a lot of "Elvis" items over the years. Over the past years I have decorated my house at Christmas time. I had three front rooms and a garage that were decorated up for Christmas. Each room had a different scene about Christmas. One of the front rooms was always decorated as "The Elvis Christmas Room". People would get out of their cars and walk up to the house and look into the front windows.

I would love to communicate with others who love not only the music but also the movies, which I feel have been unfairly treated - even by some people who love everything else about Elvis!

The films have so often been 'put down,' but I saw every one of them (several times each) while growing up and loved them, and feel they have received a rotten deal - then, and now.

While the music was finally recognized for its greatness, the movies still haven't been - and I set out to do something about that!

I felt so strongly about this that, for the last ten to twelve years, I've been writing a book about the subject. It will be published this summer (2006) by McFarland and is called Elvis Cinema and Popular Culture -

in it, I argue that the movies, far from marginal, are actually - along with the music, of course - an essential centerpiece of American popular culture between 1955-1970.

Would love to share my thoughts with others - so please do indeed make me a part of your pen-pal group.

P.S. - Syracuse University's film school is allowing me to teach a course on Elvis Cinema this fall! would love to have Elvis fans in the central New York area know about it so that if they wish they can stop by, visit, and partake of the discussions!
